Sick Policy

  • Illness: Your child’s health and well-being are of utmost importance to us. Please understand that we cannot diagnose, and we will defer to the child’s pediatrician. We ask that parents please use these guidelines obtained from the Department of Health for excluding their child from school:

  • Fever: temperature of 100.1 degrees or more

  • Diarrhea

  • Severe coughing - if a child gets red or blue in the face or makes a high pitched, croupy, or whooping sound

  • Difficult or rapid breathing

  • Yellowish skin or eyes

  • Pink eye – child’s eyes tear, redness of eyelid lining, irritation, followed by swelling and discharge of pus

  • Vomiting

  • Unusual spots or rashes

  • The contagious stage of childhood diseases such as chicken pox, measles, strep throat, roseola, impetigo, etc.

  • Lice - child will be sent home for a minimum of 1 week and will not be allowed to return until medical clearance from a doctor is received stating that no further nits are present. If the child has any nits, the child will be sent home again for another week until the cycle has been broken.

  • Pain, such as headache or stomachache

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, we will call you and ask that you pick up your child within one hour. If we cannot get in touch with you, we will then notify your emergency contact and ask them to pick up your child. In the event that your child is sent home with an illness, we require a doctor’s note before readmission. The doctor’s note should be signed and stamped by the doctor and explain what the illness was, if it is contagious, and when the child may return to school.
